The YMCAs throughout Africa strengthen reproductive health and HIV/AIDS knowledge and practices through innovative education programmes. Most African YMCAs utilise peer education to empower young people to make healthier reproductive health choices. The programmes help raise awareness and foster behaviour change. YMCAs in many countries are also providing vital educational, recreational and livelihood support to orphans and vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS as well as community-based care for people living with HIV. YMCAs also organise awareness raising and anti-stigma campaigns to eliminate discrimination.
