In 2007, African YMCAs adopted a Gender Policy, and recent work around gender has focused on national movement alignment to this policy. National movements have made increasing effort to address gender inequalities in structures within the movement, all include young women as beneficiaries in their programme work and the YMCAs have now begun the process of mainstreaming gender to ensure that gender is a consideration during the concept stage of a programme, all the way through to the evaluation stage.
We are currently developing a programme on transformative masculinity in Southern Africa intended to reshape youth masculinity.
