Striving Together for Sustainability

Under the theme ‘Striving together for sustainability’, the Sierra Leone YMCA re-elected its Chairperson and board for a further term at its 4th triennial meeting in November 2009 .

The YMCA Sierra Leone has experienced growth in the past years and he encouraged the leadership and membership not to relent.

Chairperson Siaka P.J. Charles said that when his team took over the mantle of leadership in 2006, they committed to develop the National Headquarters’ structure and the programmes; and to create a stronger partnership with Liberia. Over the past term, there has been success in all these areas and the Sierra Leone YMCA is well advanced in terms of broadening its partnership base. The movement has also done well in the GOP process.

Sierra Leone YMCA is considered a leading NGO in the country, according to Christian Martyn Kamara, the National General Secretary. He said this has been achieved due to its unique characteristic as a membership organisation whose credible and historic presence is felt in 24 local communities.
