During and after the civil war in Liberia, the youth established community radio stations to assist in peace efforts and nation building. The 5 radio stations in Liberia were instrumental in encouraging people to embrace disarmament and now form a lifeline in areas where the people do not have access to news and information. These stations are run and managed mainly by volunteers who work under extremely difficult conditions and without adequate facilities – using car batteries instead of transmitters. This campaign aims to raise finances to purchase transmitters and media equipment such as recorders and mixing desks, as well as to improve capacity through professional media training and exchange programmes for the journalists and media workers in this project.
