As we pause and take time off to be with our loved ones during Christmas and New Year, let us indeed pause. What do I mean by that? Pause. Reflect. How often do we really have time to do that in the development world? Let us reflect on many things: have we done enough for project participants in the quest for the Africa we Want? Have we sometimes done too much without giving space for mistakes so necessary for empowerment? Have we looked after our families in our quest for African empowerment? Have we nurtured our own mind, body and soul? Many questions we need to ask ourselves, most important of all being: have we put God in the centre and do we listen to His word to guide us? So, let us give this time over to the Lord and let us also reflect on how far we as individuals and a collective with a heart for Africa have come.
Let us reflect on the year ahead. And as we pause, we remember those less fortunate than us whether physically, emotionally or spiritually. So, I challenge you in the midst of your love and festivities, to pause for your sake and those of your family and Africa.
From the Africa Alliance of YMCAs, we wish our YMCA family, friends and partners a wonderful Christmas and a blessed New Year.
