The launch precedes a planned career and entrepreneurship drive in November 2017 in 17 YMCA branches across Kenya that will culminate to the Careers Expo and Beyond! at YMCA Kenya, Nairobi Central Grounds, situated opposite the Kenya University.
The breakfast launch on 20 April 2017 includes a special panel discussion facilitated by experts from various organisations and fields of expertise.
The panel of experts includes:
1.KEVIN DOYLE (THE MODERATOR / SPECIAL ADVISOR TO CAREER MANENOZ)
Kevin is an independent consultant in the areas of Youth employment, corporate social responsibility and land tenure with over 25 years of experience in the development in the US and East and Central Africa. He holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Journalism from Ohio Wesleyan University, and earned a postgraduate diploma at the from the University of Western Cape’s Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS). He sits on the Board of Directors of the Samburu Girls Foundation, the Make it Happen Initiative, and the Readers, Actors, Audiences and Writers (RAAW) Trust.
2.DR. KEVIT DESAI CHAIRMAN, LINKING INDUSTRY WITH ACADEMIA (LIWA)& DIRECTOR, CENTURION SYSTEMS LTD.
Dr. Desai is the owner and Managing Director of Centurion Systems Ltd., a member of IEEE Kenya. He holds a Ph.D. in Robotics Systems Engineering from Shibaura Institute of Technology in Japan. He serves as Governor of Kenya Private Sector Alliance and is a former Commissioner of the Commission of Higher Education. As a Task Force Member of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Desai was responsible for the development of the University Act; Science, Technology and Innovation Act; and Technical, Vocational Education and training (TIVET) Act of Parliament.
He is the founder and chairman of Linking Industry with Academia (LIWA). Dr. Desai has been a member of the steering Committee in JICA master’s degree and internship program of the Africa Business Education Initiative for the youths. He is also the chairman of the permanent working group on vocational training. He also serves as a trustee at the United States International University Africa (USIU).
Dr. Desai introduced Centurion Systems to the students and the various services that Centurion Systems offers to engineering graduates. He emphasized the need to keep abreast with PLCs, Pneumatics, Robotics and Industrial Automation techniques that will continue being useful even as the country becomes more industrialised.
He is professionally affiliated to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Kenya Section, Kenya ICT Federation (KIF) and the Kenya Science, Technology and Innovation Steering Committee.
3.MR. BERNARD OMONDI – DIRECTOR BEMOS CRAFT DEVELOPERS
Bernard is the Director of Bemos Craft Developers, a social enterprise established in 2000 that aims to improve the livelihoods of the youth through income generation projects in the craft industry. The organization empowers the young men and women to learn the craft that utilizes recycled and waste materials in arts like carving and bead making to earn income and improve their lives and have less time to indulge in drugs and crime. The organization seeks to transform the lives of the youths in the slums areas of Kibera and Korogocho within Nairobi County.
4.MR. GREGG WELTZ – SENIOR YOUTH AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT ADVISOR (USAID)
Mr. Gregg is a holder of Masters in in Youth Services Management from the Brandeis University, Heller School for Social Policy and Management and Undergraduate Degree in History and Political Science from the Wisconsin University, Madison. He has a wide experience in the youth and policy affairs having held positions such as Youth Workforce Development at All About Youth (Uganda), Start-Up Chief of Party at Goal (Uganda) and Director of Youth Services at the US Department of Labor (Washington DC)
5.MR. JATO SYONG’OH – STAKE HOLDER ENGAGEMENT UNIT – KRA
Mr. Jato is the Team Leader – Stake Holder Engagement at the Kenya Revenue Authority. He is a widely experienced in leadership and brand management, and he holds graduate degree in Business Administration and Intergrated Marketing Communication from the United States International University.
