The Board of Directors of the Liberia YMCA has appointed a new National General Secretary/CEO. A release from the YMCA in Monrovia says Mr. E. Timotheus Kamaboakai will take over as of 1 May 2017.
The appointment of Mr. Timotheus Kamaboakai comes after the voluntary disengagement of Mr. Edward E. Gboe who is expected to end his tenure as National General Secretary on April 30, 2017. Mr. Gboe has been head of the YMCA for over 8 years.
Mr. Kamaboakai holds a Masters in Public Affairs (MPA) with emphasis in Non- Profit Management and Strategic Planning from the University of Minnesota, USA. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Social Work from the United Methodist University in Monrovia.
The new YMCA CEO has served the institution as a staff member in several capacities for the past 13 years. Tim, as he is called, joined the Liberia YMCA in 1995 as a member of the St. Patrick’s Hi-Y Club. His first role in the Monrovia YMCA was to work with Hi-Y Clubs conducting Hi-Y Training including the establishment of H-Y Clubs and working on membership. He was Secretary General of the National Youth Council.
He was appointed as the Development Secretary for the Liberia YMCA in 2012 and was the youngest appointee in the history of the Liberia YMCA. Having previously served under Mr Sam E. Hare, Jr. He has also served as Editor in Chief of the Y-ECHO Newsletter, the official newsletter; as the first Information Officer of the Liberia YMCA and later headed the Peace Desk.
He has also worked in Geneva as a Young professional at the World Alliance of YMCAs. Prior to his appointment, he served as Project Manager of the Supporting Youth Livelihood and Governance Project in Liberia.
